End of the season cake

My mom asked me to make a cake to commemorate the end of the season up in Thousand Island Park on Wellesly Island.  I have seen the cute little squirrels, acorns, and pears in a book called Kate's Cake Decorating by Kate Sullivan.  I just put my own spin on it with the tree stump cake.  My mom stepped out of her box on this one (usually it's always white cake, vanilla frosting) - I got to make chocolate butter cream!  The figures are all made out of marzipan and hand painted.

Baby Shower Weekend

It just so happens that I had two orders in one weekend and both for baby showers.  One was for baby shower cookie favors for a little baby boy, and the other was a cupcake order for a shower for a little baby girl.

The cookies were vanilla and decorated with royal icing so they could be bagged.  They came out super cute, however; I totally underestimated the time they took to decorate - and ended up staying up until 3:00 am... not good!  That little teddy bear was the culprit!

The cupcakes were pumpkin spice with cream cheese frosting, and red velvet with chocolate buttercream.  Delicious!  On top were little fondant/gumpaste molds of baby girl shoes.  So cute.  I really enjoyed doing both orders.

Georgia and Ava's Birthday

So, I totally failed to capture Georgia's Birthday party and her cake/cupcakes all but for the hind view of Cinderella.  Thank goodness it was a joint birthday party and Ava's grandma got a great picture of the cupcakes :)  There were a ton of cupcakes - chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, vanilla gluten-free, and vanilla dairy free!

A Fairy Tale Weekend

This weekend was full of princess cakes.  A Cinderella castle for a sweet 3 year old girl, and a Rapunzel cake (minus the hair!!!) for my niece's 4th birthday... my girls were in heaven!!!

The Castle was white cake, and Rapunzel was strawberry and tinted purple white cake.

VW Bug Cake

This cake was done for a wedding today, based off of pictures of their actual car.  It was my fist car, and I learned a few things.  All in all it came it out pretty cool.

The cake was a white cake, covered in fondant that I actually painted silver.  My photography needs some work - it looked better in person :)

First cakes out of retirement

These were my first two cake orders coming out of retirement :)  Boy you guys didn't waste any time making orders!  Thank you!!!  I had fun doing these and look forward to many more cakerations.

The owl cake is based off the design on my coffee cup that both my sister and I share.  I love these little guys.  It is a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and topped with fondant.  The design is hand painted on.

The dinosaur cake is also vanilla cake with vanilla frosting.  The dinosaur is made out of cake as well, with a rice krispie treat neck :)

I'm Baaaack....

Hi Everyone who may visit this page! Since I haven't posted in two years, I figured I'd update with a little post and notification that I have come out of retirement!  Kids are two years older, we are in a different house, and I just got a new convection oven!!!  Bring on the orders!  Of course I have kept up my baking and random family cakes through the past two years, but it is good to be back and I'm ready to jump in and get my creative juices flowing!  Thank you to all of you who keep asking me for cakes!  Your loyalty makes coming back to cakerating a whole lot easier :)  I'll be posting pics soon!!!
Best,
Danielle
