End of the season cake

My mom asked me to make a cake to commemorate the end of the season up in Thousand Island Park on Wellesly Island.  I have seen the cute little squirrels, acorns, and pears in a book called Kate's Cake Decorating by Kate Sullivan.  I just put my own spin on it with the tree stump cake.  My mom stepped out of her box on this one (usually it's always white cake, vanilla frosting) - I got to make chocolate butter cream!  The figures are all made out of marzipan and hand painted.

Baby Shower Weekend

It just so happens that I had two orders in one weekend and both for baby showers.  One was for baby shower cookie favors for a little baby boy, and the other was a cupcake order for a shower for a little baby girl.

The cookies were vanilla and decorated with royal icing so they could be bagged.  They came out super cute, however; I totally underestimated the time they took to decorate - and ended up staying up until 3:00 am... not good!  That little teddy bear was the culprit!

The cupcakes were pumpkin spice with cream cheese frosting, and red velvet with chocolate buttercream.  Delicious!  On top were little fondant/gumpaste molds of baby girl shoes.  So cute.  I really enjoyed doing both orders.

Georgia and Ava's Birthday

So, I totally failed to capture Georgia's Birthday party and her cake/cupcakes all but for the hind view of Cinderella.  Thank goodness it was a joint birthday party and Ava's grandma got a great picture of the cupcakes :)  There were a ton of cupcakes - chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, vanilla gluten-free, and vanilla dairy free!

A Fairy Tale Weekend

This weekend was full of princess cakes.  A Cinderella castle for a sweet 3 year old girl, and a Rapunzel cake (minus the hair!!!) for my niece's 4th birthday... my girls were in heaven!!!

The Castle was white cake, and Rapunzel was strawberry and tinted purple white cake.

VW Bug Cake

This cake was done for a wedding today, based off of pictures of their actual car.  It was my fist car, and I learned a few things.  All in all it came it out pretty cool.

The cake was a white cake, covered in fondant that I actually painted silver.  My photography needs some work - it looked better in person :)

First cakes out of retirement

These were my first two cake orders coming out of retirement :)  Boy you guys didn't waste any time making orders!  Thank you!!!  I had fun doing these and look forward to many more cakerations.

The owl cake is based off the design on my coffee cup that both my sister and I share.  I love these little guys.  It is a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and topped with fondant.  The design is hand painted on.

The dinosaur cake is also vanilla cake with vanilla frosting.  The dinosaur is made out of cake as well, with a rice krispie treat neck :)

I'm Baaaack....

Hi Everyone who may visit this page! Since I haven't posted in two years, I figured I'd update with a little post and notification that I have come out of retirement!  Kids are two years older, we are in a different house, and I just got a new convection oven!!!  Bring on the orders!  Of course I have kept up my baking and random family cakes through the past two years, but it is good to be back and I'm ready to jump in and get my creative juices flowing!  Thank you to all of you who keep asking me for cakes!  Your loyalty makes coming back to cakerating a whole lot easier :)  I'll be posting pics soon!!!
Best,
Danielle

Polar Bear Wedding cake

This cake is chocolate cake and white cake covered in vanilla buttercream. I made the flowers out of gumpaste, and sculpted the polar bears out of a fondant/gumpaste mix. They were hard to make! Overall I think this cake came out cute.

Fish catching a golf ball

This cake was also a challenge, but I like how it came out. It is chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream on the bottom, and the fish is made out of white cake. Thanks to my husband for building me a stand to support the hieght of this fish! The fish is covered in fondant and hand painted.

JetBlue airplane cake

This was an engagement cake for a couple who met on a jetBlue airplane. It was a fun cake, but a challange as well. Everything is edible...

Addie's 4th Birthday Cake

Addison turned 4 and wanted a Minnie Mouse cake... this is my version, hand painted Minnie, with buttercream accents.

school bus cookies

These cookies were for a woman who is retiring after 33 years of work with the school transportation department. All the details are hand painted on. Before I painted them, my daughter asked why I had melted American cheese all over the cookies... it did look like that, but it is glaze :)

Mom's birthday cake

I made this cake for my mom... I was testing out recipes and a few things. I made the sugar flowers, and the cake is white almond sour cream cake... yum...

Beach theme cake

This is a beach themed cake made for a little boy. Everything is edible EXCEPT for the umbrella...

NY Yankee cake

This was a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream to go beside the wedding cake for the groom :)

Simple Wedding Cake

For this cake, the bride wanted simple. There were three tiers: white with chocolate ganache filling, chocolate with raspberry filling, and white with raspberry filling. All covered in buttercream with light purple swiss dots on the side.

Becky's baby shower

This was a fun set of cakes to do. The design is based off of the baby shower invites. The background is a 22" circular cake board covered in chocolate fondant, and the cakes are all covered in fondant as well. The flavors of the four cakes are : white cake with vanilla buttercream, chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, lemon cake with raspberry filling and lemon buttercream, and chocolate cake with peanutbutter buttercream...

Baby shower cake

This cake was made for a baby shower and the idea was based off of the invites. I like the yarn look around the edges - kind of like a cozy baby blanket...

Police Academy graduation cake

This cake was for a man (Ed) who just graduated from the police academy. The gun and handcuffs are formed out of fondant, and as close to real looking as I could get. Fun cake :)

Beach theme shower cookie favors

This is the last and final set of cookies done for memorial day weekend. They came out very cute - glazed and hand painted.

Monogram cookies

These cookies were for a small celebration before a wedding. They are iced in glaze and hand painted.

Wedding cookies

These cookies were for a wedding - all buttercream hydrangeas and roses... I think they came out pretty.

Sex and the City Cookies

These are one of the four sets of cookies I did in one day in order to skip town for memorial day weekend. They were for a girls night party and decorated with buttercream.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake

White cake with vanilla frosting. The hand, Mickey head, and foot are made with rice krispy treats and covered in fondant. As easy as it looks, this cake was kind of hard to make!

LV Purse

This purse cake came out great :) It was modeled after a LV purse, but the bride changed the initials to hers and her fiance's. The cake was white cake with vanilla buttercream and strawberry filling. The cake was covered in fondant and hand painted. I learned not to do a 3-D cake with a filling - hope the cake wasn't too much of a mess inside!

Cookies to match Purse Cake/theme

These are handpainted cookies to go along with the purse cake. TB is the bride's take on LV... Cute idea. I still don't know what I think of these cookies... I decorated them from midnight to 3:30 a.m.

Polar bear shower cake

For reasons that are my own fault, I came up with this cake very last minute... It was vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, and a painted fondant top. It came out a bit young looking for a shower cake, but cute nonetheless :)

Zumba Cake

This is a red velvet cake, iced in vanilla buttercream, and decorated with fondant accents. the "Dancing Kats" are hand painted on fondant. This was based off of an image for the Dancing Kats Fitness Studio.

Jane's Cookies

These are cookies for a friend who is running for the 119th district for state assembly. I had to do 225 individually wrapped cookies. Each cookie is glazed, and hand painted. A LOT of work, but fun once I got into a good groove.

Hannah's Gumball Cake

This is a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting, and fondant accents. The cake was based off of the invitations, and was too cute!

Hunter's 1st Birthday Cake

This is a white cake with vanilla buttercream. It was a "Ball" themed party, and my last cake of the weekend!!!

Fishing Wedding Cake

This is a wedding cake I did this past weekend. It was not an original design (the bride had a picture for me).

The bride and groom are made out of fondant, and the whole cake is edible except the fishing line :)

The whole cake is white cake with vanilla buttercream. This was a very fun wedding cake to do!

Umbrella shower cake/ cookies

These are shower favor cookies to go with the cake. The cake is half white, and half chocolate, and covered in buttercream. The cake didn't photograph well for some reason, but it was cute.

Tinkerbell Cake

This is a tinkerbell birthday cake. It is a lemon cake with lemon buttercream, and a fondant top - which I handpainted Tinkerbell on. I was proud of myself for this one because one little mess up, and tinkerbell doesn't look like tinkerbell anymore...

Stack of Books Cake

Two books in this cake are chocolate, and one is white, covered in fondant, and hand painted. The coffee cup is made out of cake, covered in fondant, and hand painted. This was a challenge, but I like how it came out.
